  • Preheat your pan or griddle: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.

  • Prepare the bread: Spread a thin layer of Thousand Island dressing on one side of each slice of rye bread. This dressing adds flavor and helps keep the sandwich moist.

  • Layer the sandwich: On four slices of bread, layer the corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese. Distribute these ingredients evenly to ensure every bite is flavorful.

  • Top with remaining bread: Place the remaining slices of bread on top of the layered ingredients, dressing side down. Apply gentle pressure to assist in maintaining the sandwich's structural integrity.

  • Butter the sandwiches: Spread softened butter on the outsides of each sandwich. This step adds richness and helps the bread achieve a golden brown, crispy exterior when cooked.

  • Cook the sandwiches: Place the sandwiches on the preheated skillet or griddle. Allow the sandwiches to sizzle on each side for.  approximately 3-4 minutes, ensuring the bread achieves a delightful golden hue while the Swiss cheese cascades into a molten, creamy pool of perfection. You can use a spatula to gently press down on the sandwiches while cooking to help them cook evenly and achieve a nice crust.

  • Serve: Once the sandwiches are cooked through, remove them from the skillet or griddle. Cut them in half diagonally to create two triangular halves. Serve hot and enjoy the gooey, savory goodness of your homemade Reuben sandwich!

  • Optional: Feel free to customize your Reuben sandwich by adding extras like sliced tomatoes, caramelized onions, or spicy mustard for an extra kick of flavor. You can also serve the sandwiches with a side of coleslaw, pickles, or potato chips for a complete meal.

  • Now, sit back, relax, and indulge in the deliciousness of your homemade Reuben sandwich!
